An internship is an excellent way to develop an understanding of both Barclays Capital and our industry. Our internship experience provides a valuable mix of training, mentoring, and skills and knowledge development. Many of our interns go on to secure full-time positions, mainly in London but also in other UK and European offices.
We offer a variety of internship positions at both Analyst and Associate level that are open to students (undergraduate, MSc, MBA and PhD) in their penultimate or final year of study, and to graduates. Our internships start in the spring, summer and winter, and vary in length from 6 weeks to 6 months. Generally, we are seeking applicants who are seriously considering a long-term career in investment banking.
All of our internships will provide you with a real insight into the world of investment banking, which will hopefully confirm your ambition to pursue a full-time career with us. We are also flexible in our approach, offering you a variety of programmes tailored to your particular circumstances and availability.
Your summer internship with us will start with a training course designed to give you an understanding of the firm and our industry. You’ll be equipped with the skills to succeed and to make the most of the experience. Our training will also provide you with valuable opportunities to network with other interns on the programme.
At Barclays Capital we are keen to ensure that you have the opportunity to fully integrate into our teams and work on real projects – therefore, you will need to apply to a specific division. Whilst working with your chosen division, you will also experience further learning events, presentations, meetings with senior managers and continual networking opportunities. By the end of the programme, you’ll have a really good idea of whether a graduate career with us is right for you.
The majority of summer internship programmes will end prior to the Olympic Games.
These internships are designed for finalists and applicants whose degree course requires them to get experience at either a different time of the year or for a longer period of time (6 weeks to six month).
The duration of your internship will be driven by business requirements and your availability. Again, these internships are open to students (undergraduate, MSc, MBA and PhD) in their penultimate or final year of study, and to those who have already graduated.
The Spring Programme gives first-year students (or second year of a four-year course) incredible early insights into a career in the financial world. There are a number of specific programmes on offer, depending on your area of interest. Each involves an intensive week of work shadowing, workshops, interactive skill sessions and many networking opportunities.
At the end of it, you’ll have a clear picture of what we do – and the opportunities we have to offer. Even better, all of our Spring Programme participants are automatically fast-tracked to an assessment centre for a summer internship the following year. Many have gone on to complete a summer internship and then join our full-time graduate programme.
