EMEA FAQs

Applications
Can I send my CV by email?

We only accept applications made online via this website to ensure a fair and consistent application process.

I have made an error on my application, what should I do?

You can update your personal details section of your application, but you can’t make any other amendments once it is submitted. To update your personal details, please log into your application where you can edit the details yourself.

Can I get feedback on my application?

Because of the large volume of applications we receive, we do not provide feedback at the testing, CV screen or telephone interview stages of the application process. We will provide detailed feedback to candidates who attend our final assessment events.

What should I do if I have a disability that may affect my performance at any stage of the recruitment process?

Barclays Capital is committed to Equal Opportunity Employment. We will make reasonable adjustments to the selection process where necessary. If you think you have a disability that may impact your performance anywhere in the selection process, please contact us to discuss your personal circumstances.

Do you offer deferred entry for your programmes?

In exceptional circumstances, we may allow you to defer your start date. Please speak to your recruiter for further details.

Area/Locations
Can I apply to more than one region?

We encourage you to apply to one region; however, some roles recruit on a global basis.

If applying for internships, we recommend that you apply to the region to which you would want to be recruited for a full-time role.

I require a work permit for the region I would like to work in – can I still apply?

All applicants will be considered; however, you should be aware that the granting of work permits is beyond the control of Barclays Capital and subject to local immigration laws.

Can I apply to more than one area within the Barclays Group?

You are able to apply for one position with the Retail and Business Bank (RBB) and one position across Barclays Corporate, Capital or Wealth. Please ensure you review each area and are comfortable with the decision you make as once you have applied, we are unable to move your application.

Positions
Do you offer work experience opportunities?

We run a structured internship programme for university students. Outside this programme, we offer a number of ad hoc insight events that vary from one day to one week long in our main office locations – check our global events section for details. We do not offer other ad hoc work experience opportunities.

Can I apply for more than one programme across the Barclays Group?

You are able to apply for one position with the Retail and Business Bank (RBB) and one position across Barclays Corporate, Capital or Wealth. Please ensure you review each area and are comfortable with the decision you make as once you have applied, we are unable to move your application.

I have changed my mind – can I change my application to apply for another position?

If you change your mind about the position you’d like to apply to, please call the campus recruitment team. If your application is unsuccessful, you are not able to reapply for another position.

Submissions
I applied previously to Barclays Capital – can I reapply?

We accept one application per candidate per year. If you have previously applied to us, you can only reapply once the next recruitment season begins. The season begins on 1 August each year in EMEA and you must include details of any previous applications when you reapply.

Why doesn’t the role I want to apply for appear on the application form?

Our deadline dates are indicative only. If a role doesn't appear on the application form, we don't have any positions available in this business area. We recruit on a rolling basis, beginning interviews before the deadline date, and if all vacancies are filled we will close the application form.

How long does the application process take and when will I hear back?

The length of the application process will vary depending on when and to which area you have applied. We aim to reply to candidates as soon as possible after the application is submitted but don't have a set turnaround time. Please bear in mind that we receive a very high volume of applications and are not able to respond to applications immediately.

When should I submit my application?

We commence recruiting on 1 August each year. We recruit on a rolling basis, so the earlier you apply, the better. Don’t wait until the deadline.

Eligibility
I have already graduated or have some work experience – can I still apply for the programmes?

Most internships are offered to penultimate or final-year university students; however, there are certain circumstances where we would assess a graduate student as well.

I am in my first year at university – can I apply for the summer internship?

You need to be in your penultimate year of study to apply for the internship programme. Other opportunities are offered to students that are not eligible for the internship, including the London Spring Session.

I am still at secondary or high school – do you offer any work experience?

We hold Insight events during the summer for students studying A-levels or equivalent. Check our events section for details about any upcoming events.

Do you need any specific academic requirements to apply?

We expect applicants to our programmes to have demonstrated strong academic performance at school and at college/university, although we don't have specific grade criteria for applicants.

GMAT: Not all schools require a GMAT for entry; therefore, it is not an essential part of the qualifications for entry. However, our experience has shown that successful graduates in the firm are those whose GMAT score was 680 or higher.

You should, however, check that you are applying to the right vacancy for your academic background: Associates need to have an MBA plus a period of significant work experience; Quantitative Associates need to have a PhD or similar; and Analysts at least a Bachelors degree or equivalent.

Barclays Capital does not visit my college/university – will my application be considered?

Yes. Although we may visit certain schools/universities, this does not mean that if you don't attend one of these institutions your application won't be considered. We recruit candidates from all universities.

Do I need to speak the local language to apply for a role in that country?

As Barclays Capital's business language is English, it is necessary to speak a high level of English no matter which role and region you are applying to. It is not always necessary to speak the local language of the office you are applying to, although for roles in the Sales and Investment Banking Divisions, native fluency in the local languages is required.
